At a very early age it is sometimes amusing how we want things our way. Even as babies, we cry, whine, throw our fits all in opposition if we do not have it our way. Sometimes we are allowed to have it our way but as we grow older we are taught NO means NO. All the screams and tantrums come to a nought – those tricks do not work anymore.
Little by little we begin to learn the realities of life. You cannot have all that you want at all times. But Alas! I am tempted to think sometimes we only accept this because as children we most likely live under the guidance and authority of our parents or a custodian. There is a part of us that dreams of a day of freedom or so we think…..Adulthood….we can do what we want, as we want it and when we want it!
Well thought out but we missed a very key point…. We are not in control. Yes, you read right…. We are not in control. It is neither you nor I. The one steering this ship is the Chief Captain, the Lord of Hosts, the King of Kings, The Lord God. You either allow Him to take his rightful place and steer this ship where you can be assured of safety till the end even through the storms and tides or you have it your way and end up sinking!
Dear Friend, no matter how self sufficient we may feel we have to realise it is He who gives life. He formed and knew you when you were a clot of blood in your mother’s womb.
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you
30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
The truth is the ways of God are not our ways neither are His thoughts our thoughts. We are only part of His plan. He has made us for a specific purpose with each and everyone having unique abilities and gifts.
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God requires Faith, Obedience and Patience from us. Depending on who you are you are likely to struggle with at least one of these three. There are times when like little children we instantly receive as soon as we ask. Other times, we have the faith, we have obeyed but ‘dear Lord we want it now’- that is our cry. His loving response, ‘No, my child this is not suitable for you’ or ‘Be patient my child, just a bit more time.’ I am not sure which of the two we handle better.
What I have come to learn is God takes us through ‘wilderness situations’ to build us up. This is a time when everything seems futile. It is a time when you feel as if your prayers are just hitting the ceiling. It is a time when you feel or think your God has forsaken you. You feel lonely. It is a time when you are likely to be tempted and you are very likely to have justifiable reasons humanly thinking why you should succumb to it.
1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
I have also come to learn and appreciate that God uses the seemingly unpleasant circumstances to work out beautiful and glorious things in our lives. Even in the most difficult circumstances, God can work things out for His glory. Remember the suffering of the Israelites in the land of Egypt. A wicked decree had been made by Pharaoh against the Israelites.
22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”
However, it was one of these children born under such difficult circumstances that God chose to use to bring deliverance to the Israelites. I am sure they had no hope, the situation seemed bleak… But God had a master plan.
7 Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” 8 “Yes, go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother. 9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him. 10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, “I drew him out of the water.”
The book of Esther also reveals how Mordecai was exonerated and a vile Haman got paid back in his own coin.
9 Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs attending the king, said, “A pole reaching to a height of fifty cubits[b] stands by Haman’s house. He had it set up for Mordecai, who spoke up to help http://www.viagrapascherfr.com/viagra-en-pharmacie/ the king.”The king said, “Impale him on it!”10 So they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. Then the king’s fury subsided.
Jesus has reminded us in John 10:27 that if we are indeed part of his flock, we will listen to his voice. If you are in right standing with God, has sought his face and you still haven’t received any direction, it means WAIT! As human as we are, one of the most arduous things is being asked to wait especially when we do not know the details.
God desires to bring us up to a certain level. The bible admonishes us that God will test our work. He has already laid a foundation – Christ Jesus. Now it is up to us to build ‘the house’. We each have a house to build – A spiritual house and guess what? You can choose what you want to build your house with!
House used in this context may mean character; what you are made of. You can choose to build with gold, silver, wood, straw, etc. but remember the work of each on will be tested by fire. It is only when you survive the fire that you will receive a reward.
10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.
1 Corinthians 3:10 -15
We must come to a point where we are broken before the Lord and are willing to allow Him to have his way in our lives. Our faith must be built up to a point where we have absolute trust in our God. When you trust God, you will continue to trust Him in all circumstances. Job 23:10b (AMP) says ‘‘When He has tried me; I shall come forth as refined gold [pure and luminous]’’.After all, he has promised to be there with us all the way.
2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you.
One of the scriptures that always serve as a challenge to me is
12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him (NIV).
12Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive [the victor’s] crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him (AMP).
May the good Lord help us to lay aside our wills and be humble and broken before Him. May he open our eyes of understanding as we learn to trust Him fully and take one day at a time trusting He will bring us to an expected end.
I’m only human, I’m just a woman.
Help me believe in what I could be
And all that I am.
Show me the stairway, I have to climb.
Lord for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.
One day at a time sweet Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday’s gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.
God bless you!
